Juliana Botero - Support Coordinator

About Juliana

I was born in Colombia and moved to Australia in 2004. I initially came to study, but I fell in love with the country, culture, and people and decided to stay and build my life here. I really enjoy practicing Yoga, and I became a fully qualified Yoga instructor in 2021. I also enjoy watercolour painting, reading, cooking, and catching up with friends.

Juliana's Experience

I am a fully qualified medical scientist who specializes in microbiology while working in the field. I worked in this industry for 15 years, and I enjoyed helping solve complex and interesting cases. In 2021, I decided it was time for a change and challenged myself to try something new, focusing more on community connection. This new and exciting opportunity came about as a Support Coordinator, a role that I have enjoyed since day one and something that I am very passionate about.

I enjoy every aspect of the role, and I love working with my participants, providing a person-centered approach and assisting them to connect with services and supports to help them achieve their goals and live their best lives.

I specialized in degenerative conditions, Acquired Brain Injuries, ASD, ADHD, and Intellectual disability. I speak English and Spanish fluently.

Mel Kiymaz - Support Coordinator & Recovery Coach

About Mel

In my spare time, I can be found at the gym, the beach, or away camping to explore different parts of Victoria.

Mel's Experience

Following completion of my honours in Psychology in 2020, where I double majored in Psychology and Criminology, I was inspired to pursue a career in the mental health setting. Prior to working at Sense of Care, I began my career working in a NDIS counselling clinic which specialised in assisting those with ASD, ADHD, and Intellectual Disabilities. I worked at the clinic for a few years, and then decided that I wanted to specialise in working with individuals with a psychosocial disability, as I am passionate about mental health and helping others. Since beginning with Sense of Care in 2022, I have since gained a range of knowledge and experience in supporting those with psychosocial, physical, and neurological disabilities, and it has been incredible to support people’s independence.

Carlie Gay - Support Coordinator & Recovery Coach

About Carlie

I grew up on the Mornington Peninsula and after travelling and living all over Australia, I have settled into a country life just outside of Ballarat. I have long term lived experience as a carer of a loved one with complex mental health and psychosocial disability. I understand the difficulties and at times, distress of navigating the NDIS.

Outside of work I love to grow food and flowers in my garden and look after my pets. I am creative and enjoy playing the piano and guitar.

Carlie's Experience

I initially embarked on my journey to support people with disabilities over 15 years ago. I have worked in a wide range of settings, such as one on one support, case management, leading a team charged with supporting people experiencing mental health crisis and facilitated psychosocial support and education groups for adults and children.

I spent much of my professional life as a Family Mental Health Practitioner supporting children, young people, and their families in an early intervention capacity.

I have many years of experience coordinating care for and supporting people with complex mental health challenges and psychosocial disabilities. My real passion is learning about people and relationships and how to fine tune relational skills. I strongly believe that healthy relationships are the key to a successful and fulfilling life.

Gerry Giannakis - Support Coordinator

About Gerry

Born and raised in Melbourne, I like to get out as much as I can as there is always something to do in our town. Catching up with family and friends as often as I can is important to me and takes me to my happy place. Even better if there is some good food or coffee.

Gerry's Experience

From a young age, I have valued physical and mental well-being, engaging in sports and various activities to foster this balance. My extensive experience in the corporate sector has been instrumental in guiding me to a career that I am deeply passionate about. This background has laid a solid foundation for my current role, where I support individuals within the NDIS framework.

My career as a Support Coordinator allows me to integrate my life’s experiences meaningfully. I bring personal insights from dealing with complex mental health issues, dementia, autism, and workplace-related injuries, all of which enrich my ability to assist others effectively.
